Greenberg Traurig asked Francis Cauffman to maximize the possibilities of the law firm’s difficult new space. It had an unusual building footprint and a multi-story light well divided the floor, while large columns and low ceiling heights limited natural daylight. Francis Cauffman redesigned the space with interior glass walls to create an open-plan feel, arranging workstations around the perimeter of the floor to maximize employees’ exposure to natural light. To supplement daylight at the floor’s core, the design team illuminated walls and coves with soft lighting. Public areas are designed for a high degree of flexibility – for example, the conference center, adjacent to the lounge area, can be opened up for firmwide meetings.
