New Bed Tower
Hospital for Special Surgery
New York, NY / 290,000 square feet
The Hospital for Special Surgery, a leading hospital that specializes in musculoskeletal medicine, invited Francis Cauffman to submit a proposal for a new bed tower in New York City. Taking a cue from the hospital’s work, the design team created a building that is inspired by the twists and bends of the human body. The floors are flexible and the space is designed to support future technological advancement. The design includes 102 beds, eight operating rooms, and a new lobby. Francis Cauffman incorporated a high-tech/high-touch approach for patient safety and comfort.
