The Connecticut Center for Arts and Technology (ConnCAT) occupies 15,000 SF in Science Park, and trains 100 local unemployed and underemployed adults a year for phlebotomy, medical coding and billing jobs. The school also holds an after-school digital arts and reading program for 100 kids in the fall.
The space is comprised of two connecting buildings, each with its own structural system. Open trusses allowed an opportunity to get creative, specifically with red, floating ribbons on the ceiling that promote interaction and definition of space. The bright new space now holds two designated conference areas, a kitchen/cafeteria, library, art gallery, three main classrooms and it is used to hold community functions. The new facility not only encourages creativity but also showcases it, a gallery allows students to be proud of their work. The space is complemented by a donated, hand-painted mural on the main entry wall, painted by our staff and completed on opening day by ConnCAT staff, students and donors.
