The new Interdistrict Discovery Magnet School for grades K-8, affiliated with the Discovery Museum, is themed around sciences, technology and global education. Blending green building principles with careful cost management and merging working art into the architecture reflects the school’s curriculum.
The school is nestled into a steeply graded site and is adjacent to a wooded wetland area. A curving, sculptural façade emphasizes the transition between this natural landscape and the built world. Inside, a double-height atrium space opens onto a large, open courtyard that serves as an environmental learning space. A model of sustainability, integrated design features earned a LEED Gold designation from the US Green Building Council.
