Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital (GSRH) engaged FCA to develop a new replacement facility on a 45-acre site in Center Valley, PA, and repurpose its current location in downtown Allentown. FCA envisioned the 46-acre campus as a community destination with phased development to complement the Rehabilitation Hospital.
Good Shepherd wanted a space that would be inspirational and innovative, yet still fit the community they serve. The new building was always conceptualized as being connected to nature and the environment to promote healing. The new 130,000 SF, 75-bed facility significantly increases Good Shepherd's capacity and capabilities.
Comfort and safety were central to the design. Patient flow was modeled to ensure a degree of separation between visitors and patient transfers, and the rooms feature beautiful views of nature and spacious layouts with design cues taken from spa and hospitality spaces.
