After withstanding a devastating fire, the Jewish Community Center (JCC) of Greater New Haven desired repair of the damaged space as well as a holistic assessment of how the building could better serve the community needs.
Several workshops sessions with the JCC Community and our team revealed that the configuration of the center undermined the experience of community. While the aging center could use a face lift in every program space, due to budget constraints the JCC needed to be strategic, and we targeted four areas as the highest priority:
- Provide a new Welcome desk at the center of the entry Lobby.
- A Café expansion at the primary corridor junction removed walls and opened up the space to optimize community interaction.
- A reconfiguration and update to the Fitness Center allows for new program offerings and the latest in fitness training regimens.
- Upgrades to the Locker rooms - such as wood-grained laminate lockers and glass tile feature walls - provide a spa like experience that has boosted membership.
