Virtua Health: Virtua Samson Cancer Center

Cancer Care Healthcare
Virtua chose to re-zone and re-purpose a former supermarket building that sits adjacent to its Health and Wellness Center. The building accommodates radiation oncology, an infusion treatment suite, a cancer administrative suite, and a third party infusion practice.

The existing building's size, over 23 feet high and 229 feet deep, allowed for interior opportunities, yet needed to be controlled for the intimacy of the cancer patient experience. Controlling and creating access to direct light, via roof light and new windows, was important to Virtua.

An exterior image was imagined, that has a “white box” element, which, at the main entrance to the cancer center, represents the treatment of cancer and the link between color and optimism for successful treatment. This glowing element is repeated at the interior suite entrances, for way-finding and branding. A new garden is visible to the infusion patient treatment spaces.
