WL Gore

Corporate / Workplace Maryland
The product of a deep dive engagement between the designers and the associates who work in the space, the design reflects the desired change in the physical workplace to reflect the specific democratic corporate culture that exists at WL Gore, which is consistently listed on Fortune’s “100 Best Companies to Work for”.

With a strong focus on group collaboration, FCA created a more open layout and based on associate input, included no private offices. Individual workspaces are open to each other offering the opportunity for group collaboration as required. In addition, there is a dedicated quiet area, plus ample informal meeting spaces, huddle rooms and meeting rooms are located throughout the space. Centrally located is the ‘town center’ social space where a range of activities can occur; small impromptu meetings to full group town hall meetings.  In this agile work environment, employees move seamlessly between spaces, from quiet work at desks, to sitting on a sofa with laptop, to a team meeting in the town center fostering a more mobile workstyle desired by those at WL Gore. The layout with no private offices and an abundance of natural light exudes the idea of accessibility, a theme prominent in WL Gore’s values. The project set the new workplace design process and guidelines for WL Gore.
