Clinical and Translational Science Building
The University of Rochester
Rochester, NY / 200,000 square feet
The process of finding effective clinical treatments for diseases is often slowed because of the physical separation between researchers and clinicians. Francis Cauffman’s design for this new academic center brings them under the same roof, accelerating the process of creating new cures through collaboration and swifter exchanges of information. The CTSB also provides a home for the school’s clinical and translational program, as well as 11 other departments with offices for faculty and researchers. To create an optimal work environment, the design team torqued the building’s form slightly so that natural light reaches deep into the interior spaces.
