Little Theatre

K-12 Education Connecticut
Reclaiming the rich history of New Haven in the restoration of this 1926 community-built playhouse, The Little Theatre now provides modern technology for the state’s oldest interdistrict magnet high school dedicated to the arts.

A simple palette of materials -- painted concrete block, exposed structural decking, laminated counter with clear acrylic supports – are elevated by their installation detailing that gives a raw, fun, backstage feeling throughout.

Underpinning of two neighboring buildings as well as the 16-inch concrete walls of the theatre were just a few of the “big” challenges met on this tight urban site through both engineering innovation and community engagement.
