Penn Medicine: Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Founders 11th Floor

Healthcare Acute Care Philadelphia Metro Area
The scope includes conversion of an existing Inpatient Psychiatric Unit into an 18 bed Intermediate Care Nursing Unit on the eleventh floor of the Founders Pavilion at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.  The new unit has been designed to accommodate expansion in the future.

The patient rooms were designed implementing the HUP standards for interior architecture and materials.  As a renovation project, meeting the FGI Guidelines was a challenge.  The planning team ensured that the required clearances within the room were maintained.  Each patient room has a patient lift system. Special attention was paid to the rooms adjacent to nurse stations to maintain a sound level that did not detract from the patents ability to rest.  Corridor alcoves keep corridors clear in support of greater patient safety and custom unit entrances helps to direct visitors.
